The Tiniest Tiger Asks: What Do You Do When You Have Cabin Fever?

Friends, there is a little more snow falling around our habitat.

Snow, snow and more snow everywhere I look.

Bad Kitty thinks we might be coming down with something.

Friends, What do you do when you have cabin fever?

The Toki Poki Love Drive! Will you help a child smile on Valentines’s Day?

This Valentine’s Day, why not trade Toki Poki Pet Trading Cards and bring a smile to a child’s face?

Our Friends at Toki Poki are  creating a LOVE DRIVE this Valentine’s Day and you can participate too!

This past Halloween,  Toki Poki delivered Costume Contest Trading Cards to the kids in the Yale and Hasbro Children’s Hosptitals in Rhode Island, the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and the CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Children’s Hospital in San Antonio, TX. Toki Poki enjoyed  being able to bring smiles to the kids faces so they decided to continue the efforts this year in 2011 and call it the Toki Poki LOVE DRIVE.

This first LOVE DRIVE event this year is for Valentine’s Day. They have been creating Valentine’s Cards that can be given out – with a fun-loving photo and message on the front and a place on the back of the cards for a To: and FROM:. You can see the current card collection by visiting their Facebook Photo Album.

If you want to participate, there are several ways you can…

I am a member of Toki Poki and I can’t wait to see the Valentine’s Trading Card they are making for me!

Iams Asks: Are You Eating Age Appropriate?

Iams Home 4 the Holiday Hat

As you know, Friends of The Tiniest Tiger enthusiastically participated in the Iams Home 4 the Holidays campaign by posting comments here and by uploading photos to our The Tiniest Tiger Facebook page. You can see The Tiniest Tiger’s participation and  all of the wonderful comments by clicking here.

So I was super excited when we received this nice note from our Friends at Iams;

“As the 2010 Iams Home  4 the Holidays pet adoption campaign has come to an end, we wanted to give a HUGE thank you to you and your The Tiniest Tiger’s Conservation Cub Club readers for helping make this year another success! Without your support, we couldn’t have saved the lives of more than 1.1 million homeless animals!

1,125,667 animals were adopted between Oct. 1 and Jan. 4 through more than 3,500 animal organizations from around the world.

Forever homes were found for:

  • 593,146 dogs
  • 509,470 cats
  • 23,051 other animals

On top of that, we are happy to report that IAMS is donating 5,000,000 meals to all of the Iams Home 4 the Holidays participating animal organizations! This was all made possible through retail purchases and online engagement from animal lovers like you!”

Friends we can be super proud that we united our paws and provided 32,375 MEALS for our Cousins in Need!

Super Hurrah!

Now as you know, we don’t only eat around the holidays, we need to eat every day. And eating is an important part of any Cat’s life.  In order for us to stay healthy and mischievous, we need proper nutrition.

Our Friends at Iams told me  a  national survey[1] revealed that only 10 percent of U.S. pet owners take the age of a cat or dog into consideration when determining which formula to feed their pet. So Iams is encouraging Americans to make 2011 a healthier year by feeding pets a life stage specific diet, like Iams Premium Protection.

I need to follow a low allergy diet and I also have diabetes, so my parents are super careful about my meals and snacks.  Sometimes too careful if you ask me, but I know it is for my own good. But this got me to wondering how many of my Friends also eat a special diet and/or for specific health concerns or for your age?

Then I wondered how we decide which food, when and why!  Dr. Katy Nelson, DVM explains in the following videos:

For Kittens:

For Young Cats and Dogs

For Mature Cats:

Whoa! Didn’t that Cat look just like my cousin Mercy?  But he isn’t mature in his eating or behavior.  hahahahaha.  Seriously, this is both interesting and important.

The new year is when our pet parents talk about getting themselves in better shape by following a healthier diet.  Maybe it is time that we do the same.

I am super curious now and am wondering, do you  eat age appropriate?   If you don’t now, do you think you might make a change?

Paddycake, Paddycake, Gracey’s Dad.

After watching this video, my dad decided that he and I could try this too.
First he had to teach me the Paddycake song.
And his version went something like this:

Paddycake, Paddycake, baker’s man,
Bake me a cake as fast as you can;
Roll it, pat it, mark it with a G,
Put it in the oven for Gracey and me.

My dad felt confident in my abilities as he had recently taught me how to do something he calls “Give me five!” This is a simple gesture really. He holds up his hand and says, “Gracey, give me five.” Then I simply take my paw and touch his hand with my paw. Friends, this makes my dad really happy. I have no idea why but when he holds out his hand, I touch it with my paw and he gets super happy and says “Good girl!”. This usually results in a treat so I am more than happy to give him five.

But the paddycake is proving a little more difficult. First, I didn’t know the words, and second there is a lot of eye-paw coordination required. Once by accident I missed and got his face. He didn’t like that.

Then I asked him what I would sing back to him and he said;

Paddycake, Paddycake, baker’s man,
Bake me a cake as fast as you can;
Roll it, pat it, mark it with a P,

Whoa, wait, mark it with pee?  That wouldn’t make for a very tasty cake now would it?

hahahahahaha!

Then he said, not Pee. My  name is Paul, so you would mark it with a P.

hahahahahahaha!  Mark it with Pee.

Ok, Mark it with a D, Put it in the oven for Dad and me.

Let’s try again.

Paddycake, Paddycake, baker’s man,
Bake me a cake as fast as you can;
Roll it, pat it, mark it with a D

hahahahaha!  We will have to try again later.  Meow for Now!

The Tiniest Tiger Sees Red!

Happy Thursday Friends!

Today I thought I would stretch my imitation skills.  Sometimes it is good to try new things and today seemed like the  day to try. (Especially since I have run out of claws to count how many times I have heard the word No! this morning.  ~sigh~)

Since it is super cold outside my habitat, I thought I would try my best to imitate one of my backyard friends, the Cardinal.

This is my first attempt to imitate a bird, but I have to say I think I am doing a pretty good job.  So, can you tell if it is me Gracey, The Tiniest Tiger, on the left or on the right?

The Tiniest Tiger asks you to help Keep a Wild One Warm!

VOTE FOR THE WILDCAT SANCTUARY in the PEPSI REFRESH

The Wildcat Sanctuary just responded to an urgent plea to save 5 tigers, 1 lion, and 3 bobcats in desperate need of a home.  They safely transported them from Texas and now, winter’s  is knocking on their door.   It can get as cold as 20 below zero  in Minnesota,  so heated dens and buildings are critical, especially for tigers from Texas who won’t have time to acclimate before winter.

Minnesota has already had record snowstorms. The daily expenses are huge; the food and heating costs keep mounting during the winter months.

The Wildcat Sanctuary needs to raise enough money to cover the $3,000/month electric bill, pay for hundreds of gallons of propane for the in-floor heating systems in our three main housing units, and purchase hundreds of pounds of wholesome food for their residents.

If you help them keep a wild one warm this winter, it will also warm your heart!
