Spotless Cheetah Sighted in Kenya, First in Nearly 100 Years

A rare big cat was sighted by Guy Combes, a British Wildlife photographer after he had heard about several reported sightings of a lesser-spotted cheetah in the Kenyan plains. After looking high from an airplane and low from a Land Rover, Combes gave up trying and went back to Nairobi. After receiving a call that the unique cheetah had been seen, he decided to try again.

This time Combes came within fifty yards of the incredibly rare spotless adult cheetah with its spotted mother. Experts say the last recorded sighting of a cheetah with a plain tawny coat with freckles but no spots was in 1921, nearly one hundred years ago.

No Need for House Cat Hairball Drama!

Today in honor of National Hairball Awareness Day, we thought it would be interesting for everyone to share their own house cat hairball drama. As we discussed in our post House Cat Hairballs, We Need to Talk, hairballs are the one cat issue that cause our parents grief.  With so many salient qualities, we felines might think  our hacked up hairballs might simply be overlooked. But, it is not only the ick factor we need to worry about, chronic hairballs can cause cats serious health problems and when we are sick, that causes our pet parents stress because they love us.

National Hairball Awareness Day and FURminator Giveaway!

The Tiniest Tiger Giveaway Winner ImageCongratulations and Super Hurrah to Pearl Audrey our winner of the FURminator Giveaway.

Friends, yesterday we learned that  the #1 condition reported by 35 percent of cat-owning households is hairballs!  So today on National Hairball Awareness Day , we are going to learn about how our parents  can  eliminate  the Eww… from our homes by doing one small thing for us. They simply need to grab hold of a FURminator® deShedding Tool and groom us.

The FURminator® helps prevent hairballs  while reducing shedding up to  90%! This definitely  keeps cats happier and healthier and give our tongues a break too. We cats spend up to  30% of our time grooming so when you help us out, most of us appreciate it even if we have an odd way of showing it.

Because the expert groomers at FURmintor® know how much fur comes off of one cat, they rounded up our favorite cat ladies to create a celebrity look alike out of their cat’s hair.  You can find all of these creation in the  “FUR Creature” Gallery.  Our friends were wildly creative and quite talented using the cat hair as a medium.  I was not feeling inspired at first and then,  with the support and cheering on of our cousin Romeo the cat, I was able to create my own “Fur Creature” even without thumbs.  Here is my creation.

My attempt to create Cee Lo and Purrfect

When you see the marvelous work of our friends, mine looks well, it looks like it looks.  To see all the other wonderful celebrities made of cat fur check out the Fur Creature Gallery on the FURminator’s Facebook page.

House Cat Hairball We Need to Talk

Gracey Talks about House Cat Hair Balls

We need to talk, about house cat hair balls.

House Cat Hairballs.  There I have said it.

Friends, we need to have a talk about the one thing that might just give our canine companions the leg up when it comes to sharing the home with our pet parents. Now I know what you are thinking  and it is true, we cats have far less issues than dogs. We are super intelligent versus  the workaday mind of the canine,  we do not need to be potty trained like a puppy and  our voices are soothing and pleasant, except when provoked, versus the shrill and decibel busting bark of the dog.  I could go on but there is no need to kick a dog while it is down.  What I mean is, dogs just can not help that they are sloppy, smelly and silly so we accept and love them for what they are.

However, in a recent scientific study conducted at the Lazy Leopard Research Institute, a cat issue was stepped on and brought to our attention.  Even though dog issues far outnumber cat issues, as you can clearly see in the Venn diagram below,  we are compelled to point out that we cats have one issue that seems to cause our human parents grief and that is, the hairball.

The hair ball is a cat's only issue

Happy Earth Day to our Beloved Planet

The Tiniest Tiger’s Dad Sings Soft Kitty

The other day my dad was watching The Big Bang Theory on  television and I heard the character Penny singing the “Soft Kitty” song.  I was pretty sure that she was singing to me, because she even said the word “sweety” which is one of the many terms of endearment my parents call me.

I listened closely and even kept time with my tail. Then my dad joined in and sang the “Soft Kitty” song to me. That made me feel all warm and fuzzy and sleepy too.

I hope you like my video.

Thank you for watching.

Cat Earns Iams Play Young Stay Young Honorable Mention

Meet Jimmy!

Jimmy, is a bright-eyed handsome ginger cat, isn’t he?  And the folks at Iams think so too because Jimmy, who is 11 years young, earned an Honorable Mention in the Iams Senior Plus Play Young Stay Young contest.

Iams Sr Plus Honorable Mention Jimmy the Cat

Bright-Eyed Handsome Jimmy

Here is what Jimmy’s pet parent has to say about her young at heart boy:

Jimmy loves to play with my puppy Fiona,  he’ll jump down in front of her and roll around taunting her until she goes after him than he jumps up high to where she can’t reach him and stare at her, it’s hilarious! Then at night when I’m getting ready for bed he gets all frisky and he’ll hide around the corner and jump out at me, I know it’s coming yet he scares me every time!

Way to go Jimmy!  I love to play hide and seek and even though my parents know I am ready to pounce on them, they squeal every time too.

Do you have a cat or dog that refuses to act their age?  If you do, why not enter them in the Play Young Stay Young Contest.

Enter your Cat or Dog for a chance to Win a Year’s Supply of Iams Senior Plus!

Each week between now and June 3, 2012 the team at Iams will choose one cat and one dog 11 years of age or older that refuses to act their age. Cats Personality Unique as SignatureDNA

At Global Pet Expo, amid the myriad of leashes, collars, food and treats, I started to get into a bit of a trade show fog. Aisle after aisle of  beautiful and alluring pet products were on display and even with the best of intentions, I found myself on sensory overload. Then I walked by  SignatureDNA Unleashed and was mesmerized by the portrait of a beautiful gray Abyssinian cat.
