I was recently having a chat with some friends about how we sometimes see big cats in the movies, or a magazine and at times they get the cats all wrong. For example, a person might say they love their cheetah print sweater but it is really a leopard print. I know this might not seem like a big deal but for big cat advocates, it makes us wince when we see or hear the cats thought of as interchangeable.
They are in fact three very different cats. While these cats are all part of the Felidae family, the Jaguar (Panthera onca), and the Leopard (Panthera pardus) are both from the Panthera genus and the Cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) is the only member of the Acinonyx genus. Each cat has its own unique spots too.
I told my colleagues that I think members of The Tiniest Tiger community know how to spot these 3 cats. So just for fun, I put together a short survey to see if I am right. Since this is just for fun, try not to look up the answer if you don’t know but just trust your gut feeling. I will post the results when the survey closes. Thank you for being a part of The Tiniest Tiger community and for caring about all cats big and small. There are 4 questions in the survey below. Three images and 4 questions.
Pounce here to participate in The Curious Cat Survey 2014.
We are giving away $50 gift cards to 2 participants. And there is a Wish List too.
Thank you!
My daughter (8), knew them right off the bat. I am pretty sure she is right. She is a big cat expert ;).
Hurrah! I am so happy to hear that your daughter loves all cats big and small.
How do I find out if I’m right. Pretty sure I know which is which.
We will share the results and answers when the survey closes. Thanks for participating! I bet you are right.
Toke both surveys. Have a wonderful Sunday.
