The PetSafe ScoopFree® Ultra Self-Cleaning Litter Box

The ScoopFree®Ultra Self-Cleaning Litter Box is an innovative, automatic litter box that stays fresh and clean without the hassle. Instead of scooping every day, the litter box does all the work for you! Once the cat uses the litter box, lightly scented crystals absorb waste moisture and trap odor, while the automatic rake sweeps through the box and pushes the waste out of sight. Clean-up is as easy as placing the lid on the disposable tray and throwing it away. The privacy hood gives you the option to provide your cat a secluded bathroom and reduces litter tracking, while the health counter tracks how many times your cat uses the box.

PetSafe ScoopFree Ultra Litter Box

Features:

  • Self-cleans for weeks with no scooping, cleaning, or refilling
  • Crystal litter absorbs urine and dehydrates waste, making it 5x more effective at reducing odors than clay or clumping litter
  • Covered trap locks away solid waste and odor so you never touch or see smelly waste
  • Completely disposable leak-proof tray with lid for quick, hygienic cleanup
  • Health counter to track cat’s usage
  • Adjustable timer for automatic rake with 3 different timing options
  • Privacy hood reduces litter tracking and odor
  • Health counter tracks how many times your cat uses the box
  • Lab tested for 100,000+ cycles without failure or jamming
  • For cats of any size
  • For indoor use only

We have never tried an automatic litter box. I guess we’ve been a bit skeptical of them.
Daniel is driving me crazy with his litter box habit…..(his aiming ability) and I have tried every size, shape and configuration of regular boxes only to be about to throw my hands up and scream!
Perhaps this would solve Daniel’s problem and let me keep my sanity or what’s left of it!!!

  36. Erin says

I’ve never used an automatic litter box. However, my grandmother lost her husband of 70 years in September of 2015 and she adopted a young cat from a local shelter in her city. She’s never had a cat but always wanted one, so she really is new to caring for a cat. She really needs an automatic litter box to keep it easy for her (she’s 90 and the less work the better, and less smell in her small home is better too). Also, I love this website! It gives so much information that my grandmother needs as a new kitty mom.

I have never tried an automatic box for my cats. But if I won one I would give it to my mom to try. She’s 79, recovering from cancer and has an arthritic knee. So, this might help. Maybe, maybe not. Her cats are pretty vigorous diggers.

  71. Eli says

    January 24, 2016 at 11:24 am

Ive never tried an automatic litter box but i think i need this in my life right now. With my messy Mugi, territorial Romy and the 3 kittens we rescued we are having some litter box issues. I started looking for a good litter box but I just dont understand why a decent size plastic box cost so much…

I have not tried one as I have several cats and do rescue work so there are often “guests” in the house. I was concerned about the noise as I have some ferals but now that I have a more stable group I would love to try it and make my life easier!

I have not tried one but was looking at them online the other day. The littermaid brand got terrible reviews and were out of my budget.I have always had out door cats but since a neighbor complained I now have to keep my cats inside since my County has a leash law. My dog also thinks the litter box is hers to get into, yuck!

  89. Linda Szymoniak says

    January 22, 2016 at 10:14 pm

While I haven’t tried an self-cleaning litter box yet, I have really been wanting to. I have four dogs and three cats (all rescues).. Unfortunately, one of my dogs feels the litter box is her personal buffet. I scoop our litter boxes a couple of times a day and watch for any use between, but it never fails. One or more of our cats will use the box right after I clean it, and my dog gets into it. I’d love to try a self-cleaning litter box.

  90. Cheryl Roarke says

    January 22, 2016 at 9:45 pm

My cats have never tried this type of litter box, it would be interesting to see how it worked out.

  91. Lisa Mills says

    January 22, 2016 at 7:28 pm

I’ve never tried an automatic litter box for two reasons. One is the price of them, I just haven’t gotten to the point where I’ll bite the bullet and spend the money. Two, of the ones I’ve looked at and reviews on blog post I’ve read there hasn’t been a positive enough review that has gotten me to spend the money on one – there seems to always be a catch or down side in cleaning or maintaining that makes it less worth it to buy one.

  92. Summer says

    January 22, 2016 at 7:08 pm

We had one of those – actually it’s still around somewhere – but my human thought the crystals were too rock-like. Sparkle wouldn’t use it, and it was clear she didn’t like the way the crystals felt on her paws. We do use a crystal litter in one of our boxes, but it is more sandy in texture. I wonder if it would work in this litter box.

  93. Theresa Spaid says

    January 22, 2016 at 7:05 pm

No I haven’t tried one yet. I hope Musu and Sneaky Pie don’t get scared of it. I really would like to find out.

  94. Marilyn Hamill says

    January 22, 2016 at 6:54 pm

Sorry, not going to enter this one, as the refills are $10.00 – $15.00 each, depending where you shop.

    • ScoopFree says

      January 29, 2016 at 4:28 pm

Hi Marilyn, you might be interested to know that because of the way the litter works, a single tray can last for 1 cat up to 30 days! Because the trays are long-lasting for most cats, many people find the cost of the trays to be equal to-or in some cases be less than- what they’ve been spending on traditional litter.

I have never tried automatic litter boxes before but I would love to own one.

Oh my, with 4 cats who leave quite a bit of litter tracked everywhere, I would love to win this!

I have never tried an automatic litter box. I foster cats for a local rescue so there are usually 3 to 5 cats in my home. I didn’t know if an automatic box would handle that amount of waste.

When the automatic litter boxes first came out I bought 3 of them. Having 8 cats at the time I thought it would be ideal. It was anything but. The premium litter at the time did not clump hard enough and it gummed up the rakes and jammed it. The rakes were difficult to clean and after several weeks disposed of them all. Using a manual scoop was far easier that having to disassemble and clean the automatic litter box every few uses. What an expensive waste that was. I now use the the “world’s greatest litter” which lives up to its name. Is the best we have used thus far. Don’t think I would risk the expense of trying another automatic at this time with 5 cats using the litter boxes.

You might be interested to know the ScoopFree® Self-Cleaning Litter Boxes have stood the test of time! The ScoopFree® units have been on the market for several years and thousands of cats (and their humans) love the ease and convenience they provide. Because the crystal litter absorbs moisture from both liquid and solid waste, the volume of waste is greatly reduced over standard litter boxes. This makes ScoopFree® Self-Cleaning Litter Boxes ideal for many homes that have several cats!

I have never used an automatic litterbox but could definitely use one. I’ve been rescuing stray cats for the past 5 yrs on a very limited budget and have never asked for help from anyone. Currently have tamed 5 feral cats who are now living indoors. Have plans to tame & bring more inside as soon as I can. Thanks for the opportunity!

I have never tried automated litterboxes…the noise in motorized water scared my kitty and I’m not sure how she would react to one but I’d love to try it out!

I’ve used the Littermaid boxes in the past and they weren’t exactly perfect or clean. This one sound star more intriguing that it absorbs, instead of scoops, the liquid waste which is far more common than solid so it sounds as though waste itself is reduced. Want to try!

I have never tried one. One of our two kitties is kind of a scaredy cat so I’m not sure how it would go over. But I’d sure love to try!

Yes, I have used several different automated litter boxes. Different cats and situations call for different types. But they are all so much better than scooping!

I have used an automatic litter box. I didn’t think the cats would use it, but they did. They especially liked smacking it when it moved 🙂
