Cat and Leopard Don’t See Shadow. Ready for Spring

Cat and Leopard Don’t See Shadow.  Ready for Spring!

It is Groundhog Day!

Earlier this morning Lazy Leopard and I had a chat with Punxsutawney Phil and he told us that  at 7:25 a.m. this very morning he did in fact see his own shadow and that means there will be 6 more weeks of winter.

If Phil ‘s forecast is correct, it would mean that the unseasonably mild weather  we have been experiencing would be coming to an end and the cold, snow and dark days of winter will be stopping by for a nice long visit.

As you can see in the image of Punxsutawney Phil below,  he looks quite serious about his prediction.

Lazy Leopard and I are willing to admit  we are not experienced shadow-seers like Phil, but we thought we would ask for a second opinion.  So, we checked in with Charles G. Hogg, better known as State Island Chuck, from the Staten Island Zoo.

This morning, Staten Island Chuck was in the hands of New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg when the furry forecaster did not see his shadow predicting an early spring!

Lazy Leopard said he couldn’t decide who looked more serious about the prediction, the Mayor or Staten Island Chuck, but the guy to the left of them as you look at the photo sure is happy that an early spring was predicted.

Now that we had two opinions, one predicting 6 more weeks of winter, and one predicting an early spring, we decided to use our best scientific methodology for deriving decisions and go with the prediction that we like the best! Just to make sure we had Staten Island Chuck’s prediction correct we checked in with him back in his digs.

Well, as you can see, Staten Island Chuck is standing by his prediction. He said he didn’t mean any disrespect to his cousin Punxsutawney Phil but that he just had to call it like he didn’t see it, his shadow that is. So, there you have it,  the prediction of milder weather until the first day of Spring.

aww Macchiato loves to play outside. When it’s snowing, she doesn’t mind getting her paws wet, but only for a moment, then she comes back inside for love and warmth.

I agree with Gracey…I seen my first red breasted robin yesterday! This is a sure sign of spring! After the last snow/cold front of the winter earlier this week, we are going to be warming up today!

Well it doesn’t look like it here today, but I am sure tomorrow will bring back our precious sunbeams. So I am going to go with you, Gracey, Lazy Leopard and Staten Island Chuck!  Beside, I heard that Puxsutawney Phil was wrong well over 50% of the time!

Gosh!!!!  I hope that you’re right, Gracey!!!  Although we here in Nebraska have had an unusually mild winter, we still have weeks to go!!!  We got 9 inches of snow last Saturday!  We really need the moisture, however.  You and Lazy Leopard look so dashing in your shades!!!!!
