Pope Benedict from the balcony We arrived at the Apostolic Palace but there was no rest for the Pope.  He is very busy and he needed to prepare to address the people in St. Peter’s square.  I really had a bird’s eye view.

St. Peter’s Square is really beautiful and full of energy.  I even saw several of my cousins running around the square. The Pope told me to stay close by so I didn’t get lost in the crowd.  I am not used to seeing so many people.

After the Pope delivered his message, we went back inside so that he could take a bit of a rest.  He had a nice cup of tea and I had some water and chomped a little chow.

It wasn’t too much of a break though before it was time to go out into the crowd.  When the Pope goes out into St. Peter’s Square he has a special vehicle.  The traditional Swiss Guards are supplemented with plainclothes bodyguards and Italian state police. Everyone is on their toes making sure that everyone is safe.Pope Benedict in St. Peters Square As you can see it is a pretty big crowd, sometimes more than 30,000 people and I don’t know how many cats.  I had a very comfortable seat here too and my own private body guard.  He was to make sure that I was alright the entire time.

When the Pope completed his visit  in the square, we headed back inside the Apostolic Palace and  relaxed a bit.  The Pope likes to watch the news and he reads many newspapers, magazines, and books.

Many people come to him with papers to sign, and documents to read.  I was getting sleepy so he let me curl up and take a nap until it was time for supper.  I don’t know if I can keep up with the Pope’s schedule.

Pope Benedict playing piano After all the reading and document signing was done, I was asked to join the Pope for some music.  I didn’t know that he was such a great piano player.  I was given a private concert and I helped keep time with my tail.

This was a super fun day.  Tomorrow there will be some visitors and I think you will recognize a couple of them for sure.

My story will continue on July 9.

Wow Gracey!  You must be getting very worn out from all the business you and the Pope have to do.  And imagine, a private piano concert by the Pope.  You really are one special little girl, but I already knew that 🙂  Can’t wait for Part 3.  See you soon, sweet girl Gracey.
