Friends, at first when my dad was playing outside in the dirt, I thought he was just trying to experience the same fun that I have throwing the dirt from the fig tree planter. Since he can’t fit into the fig tree planter, I thought he was going outside where there is a lot more dirt to throw.
But will you look at this! He calls this a weed-eater! WHAT? I am not allowed to munch on the tender fig tree leaves armed only with my teeth and claws, trimmed claws I might add, but my dad is planning to attack the weeds for his snacks armed with a weapon!
And it doesn’t stop here my Friends.
There is my dad cutting the grass! Not only is he eating weeds but now cutting grass too! Do you think he is going to chomp on the grass after he gets it all collected in a pile?
Lazy Leopard thinks my dad is trying to trick us by using a green lawn mower. ~sigh~ I had to explain to him that the Neuton® Mower is not only green in color, but that it is environmentally friendly. It is battery powered, so no fumes to choke us and it only makes about a third of the noise of gas powered mowers, making it less ~scary~ sounding. That is why Lazy Leopard and I are able to watch my dad in the yard. Lazy Leopard is not convinced. He thinks my dad thinks we can’t see the mower because it is green like the grass.
I explained that the mower is moving, so of course he knows we can see both him and the mower. We cats are skilled hunters, able to detect the slightest of movements. And we are not colorblind, even though our rods outnumber our cones.
Lazy Leopard looked perplexed so I reminded him that a cat’s retina, the nerve center at the back of the eye contains both cones (responsible for converting light into color) and rods (responsible for black and white). It is true that rods greatly outnumber cones in our eyes, but color perception is possible. Color is just not as important to we felines as humans.
~yawn~This curiosity about my dad’s behavior has worn me out.
I don’t think my dad will say a word to me about taking a nap in the fig tree planter after he comes in from playing in the dirt and grass. That would be just too much wouldn’t it?

OOOH! This actually brought my husband to the computer to check it out. We have been looking for a good non-gas mower for years. The corded version did not go over well, as everyone at one point or another ran over the cord. And I threw out my shoulder whipping the cord around to avoid running over it … sigh. Thing is right now, we have a small yard and can get it mowed very cheaply but if we move or the lawn service goes away, we will certainly give this company another look. Thanks, Gracey for your investigation!

Janet, my parents are very happy with the @Neuton:twitter mower. It is lightweight and clean. The best part for me is that it only makes one third the noise of the other gas powered machines. Once my mom was cutting the front yard and Mailman Phil couldn’t even hear the mower when he pulled up to deliver the mail!

Hurrah for your dad going green with the battery powered lawn mower. But he appears to be struggling a bit….might think about getting him a riding lawmower for Father’s day!

Now Gracey, you MUST resist the urge to chew the leaves!!!! The temptation might be too great for you while you are resting there.
