How I Mended My Dad’s Broken Heart

Gracey's Blog

28 Mar

Gracey putting a couple of cat hairs in Dad's teaYou might remember that my dad and I have a morning ritual that involves getting up super early, chomping chow and drinking hot tea.  My dad drinks the tea in case you are wondering.

Even when I get too excited to wait for the alarm to go off and get my dad up out of bed, he just picks me up and tells me  he loves me, and we enjoy  the early morning together.

He always drinks his morning  tea from the Meow Chow mug that I gave him as a present on the first Father’s Day after I was adopted by  my parents. That is the Meow Chow mug in the photo above.

Two weeks ago, something unexpected happened.  In the big picture of life, you wouldn’t  say that it was something terribly awful or tragic , but to my dad, it was a little bit heartbreaking.  Here is what happened.

Meow Chow bug broken

The handle broke off of my dad’s Meow Chow mug and he was super disappointed.  He looked so sad as he carefully collected the pieces of the handle and placed them inside the mug.  He told me that he was sorry over and over and I knew that he didn’t mean to break the mug but he still looked super sad.

So after he went to work, I went online and did a google search for Meow Chow mugs and you know what? I found  another Meow Chow mug online and so I placed an order for it right away. I was going to try to keep it a secret until his birthday, but when he came home from work today the box was sitting on the front porch.  He said,  “Gracey got a package from Replacements, Ltd.”

Well, I got so excited that I just couldn’t wait.  So my mom and I had my dad sit down at the counter with his eyes closed while we opened the box and it took a long time because it was packed so well to protect the mugs. He didn’t even peak, I mean I don’t know if I would be able to not peak, but he didn’t and when we were ready, we told him to open his eyes, and this is what happened next.

Paul and Gracey Meow Chow HappyMy dad was so happy that he scooped me up and gave me a great big hug!  Then my mom and I showed him that not only did he have this replacement Meow Chow mug, but that he now had a replacement Meow Chow mug for the replacement Meow Chow mug because we ordered 2!

Sometimes it is the little unexpected things that happen in the course of an otherwise ordinary day that  can help mend a broken heart.

I can’t hardly wait until morning when my dad and I will chomp chow and drink tea.  He said he is looking forward to it too.  Should I get him up a bit early or wait for the alarm clock?

Aw Gracie! You are such a good little girl. I can tell your Daddy loves you so very much! You should tell your  Daddy to join the facebook group “Real Men Love Cats”. He can put pix of you up there and brag about how wonderful you are, with “the guys”.  I know another gift you can get him too…at meow.com they have awesome shirts that say “Real Men (admit they) Love Cats”.  The lady who owns it LOVES cats and she loves you too! You and your Daddy keep having fun together! Purrs and Meows, Mister and Purrl (from Meow.com)
