After watching this video, my dad decided that he and I could try this too.
First he had to teach me the Paddycake song.
And his version went something like this:
Paddycake, Paddycake, baker’s man,
Bake me a cake as fast as you can;
Roll it, pat it, mark it with a G,
Put it in the oven for Gracey and me.
My dad felt confident in my abilities as he had recently taught me how to do something he calls “Give me five!” This is a simple gesture really. He holds up his hand and says, “Gracey, give me five.” Then I simply take my paw and touch his hand with my paw. Friends, this makes my dad really happy. I have no idea why but when he holds out his hand, I touch it with my paw and he gets super happy and says “Good girl!”. This usually results in a treat so I am more than happy to give him five.
But the paddycake is proving a little more difficult. First, I didn’t know the words, and second there is a lot of eye-paw coordination required. Once by accident I missed and got his face. He didn’t like that.
Then I asked him what I would sing back to him and he said;
Paddycake, Paddycake, baker’s man,
Bake me a cake as fast as you can;
Roll it, pat it, mark it with a P,
Whoa, wait, mark it with pee? That wouldn’t make for a very tasty cake now would it?
hahahahahaha!
Then he said, not Pee. My name is Paul, so you would mark it with a P.
hahahahahahaha! Mark it with Pee.
Ok, Mark it with a D, Put it in the oven for Dad and me.
Let’s try again.
Paddycake, Paddycake, baker’s man,
Bake me a cake as fast as you can;
Roll it, pat it, mark it with a D
hahahahaha! We will have to try again later. Meow for Now!
