Happy Earth Day to our Beloved Planet

Earth is our home sweet home! What would we do without our world?  Today is the 42nd anniversary of Earth Day. This day is the official reminder to us that we need to protect our planet from further damage and make every effort you can to clean it up!

Our The Tiniest Tiger’s Conservation Cub club’s motto is Small Paws United Can Make a Big Difference™ so when I saw the call to action for Earth Day, 2012 with the motto Small Acts Can Make a Big Difference it caught my eye.

A Billion Acts of Green!

Iams Home 4 the Holidays Finds Homes for 1.2 Million Pets

The results are in for the Iams Home 4 the Holidays Campaign and over 1.2 million animals were adopted during the 2011 campaign.  That is an average of 9 adoptions per minute! The Iams Home 4 the Holidays is one of theIams Home 4 the Holidays Pets Adopted 2011world’s largest adoption programs and this year when the results were tallied there were 1,267,541 animals adopted in 95 days. The campaign began 13 years ago, and in that time , founding partner Helen Woodward Animal Center, along with more than 4,000 animal organizations from around the world have helped a total of 7,034,989 pets find their forever homes.

“In just three months, we’ve saved the lives of more than 1.2 million animals and have given them a second chance at life and love,” said Mike Arms, founder of the adoption drive and president of Helen Woodward Animal Center. “Not only is this a huge victory for these pets, but for the thousands of people working in animal organizations around the world who have dedicated their lives to helping end pet homelessness.”

The Bags 4 Bowls program also met its goal to donate 5 million meals to pets in need!

The Tiniest Tiger Community rallied to help “paw it forward” by participating in the Bags 4 Bowls program by uploading photos of pets and leaving comments that totaled up to providing 47,024 Meals to feed our cousins in need.  I am  super proud that our community rallied together to increase our Meals by 32% over the 2010 campaign when we generated 32,375!

I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart that you took the time to comment and upload photos to help feed our cousins in need.  We have the best caring cat community in the world.

Following the Footsteps of Francis- Happy World Animal Day

st. francis and gracey

“If you have men who will exclude any of God’s creatures from the shelter of compassion and pity, you will have men who will deal likewise with their fellow men”

– Francis of Assisi

Happy World Animal Day!

Today we celebrate the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals.  It is also appropriately and perhaps because of St. Francis that we celebrate World Animal Day.

This day, in many ways, is like every other day for most of us, meaning that we love and care for animals every day.  But today, let’s try to do one extra thing to help out an animal in need.

Maybe you could say a little prayer, or drop off a bag of food or a toy at a shelter, write a letter in protest of the mistreatment of animals, or help spread the word about one of our cousins in need.  Maybe you just scoop up your little loved one and take a little extra time today to express your love and appreciation for your friendship.

And maybe you can do the same to your fellow humans today too.   Just be a little bit more patient, kind and understanding.

I know I want to be more like Francis.

So today and every other day, I will continue to try.

“Start by doing what is necessary, then do what’s possible, and suddenly you are doing the impossible”

-Francis of Assisi

Iams Home 4 The Holidays Kicks Off Its’ 13th Annual Pet Adoption And Bags 4 Bowls Program

Iams Home 4 the Holidays, one of the world’s largest pet adoption programs, kicks off its annual adoption drive today in partnership with Helen Woodward Animal Center, with the goal of finding homes for 1.5 million orphaned pets.  Now in its 13th year, the program, which runs from October 1, 2011 through January 3, 2012, has helped 5.8 million pets find loving homes all around the world.

Iams and Helen Woodward Animal Center are teaming up again this year with more than 3,500 animal organizations worldwide to encourage pet adoption.  In addition, Iams will also donate 5 million meals to animals in need at adoption and rescue centers through its Bags 4 Bowls program.

While finding loving homes for orphaned pets is critical and the core of the program, the campaign is also designed to provide shelters and rescue centers with much needed food donations. With the help of consumers, the Iams Bags 4 Bowls program aims to donate 5 million meals to animals housed in participating organizations.
